Richard Roberts "Giant Brain" Scholarship

The Richard Roberts "Giant Brain" Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Richard Roberts, who grew up in rural West Virginia. Despite living in poverty and facing a difficult childhood, Richard's respect for education was unwavering. He dropped out of school at an early age to help support his family, but later vowed that his own children would not only finish high school but also attend college. Known for his tremendous sense of humor, Richard often joked with his children about having a "giant brain," encouraging them to use their brains to pursue higher education.

This scholarship honors Richard's legacy by helping other students use their "giant brain" to get an education. It is awarded to students who demonstrate both the drive to succeed in school and the persistence to overcome obstacles, with a preference for first-generation college students.

To date, seven scholarships totaling $6,500 have been awarded.
