Flamingo-ing Places Scholarship

The Flamingo-ing Places Scholarship is open to any high school senior in the state of West Virginia who plans to attend college. Students pursuing education through a trade school or community college are also eligible. Dedicated to the memory of Mary A. Roberts, this scholarship is funded by the Flamingo 5K. To date, two scholarships totaling $2,000 have been awarded.

About Mary A. Roberts:
Mary Roberts grew up on Tyler Mountain, West Virginia. She left high school at the end of her junior year but later returned to earn her GED. She attended West Virginia State College and worked as an aide for Kanawha County Schools throughout her career. While working full-time, she raised three children and instilled in them the value of education. Mary loved to travel and had an extensive collection of flamingos. This scholarship, dedicated to her memory, aims to help other students "go places" by pursuing their education.

Recipients:
2023: Kennedy Harris, Wirt County High School
2024: Ella Frazier, Winfield High School
