I was diagnosed with IC in 2005. Thanks to support from the The Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA), I was able to find support, assistance in locating a qualified physician, education, and a place where I knew I wasn't alone. My IC is currently medically and surgically managed, and I am able to do many of the same things I could before being diagnosed with IC.
It's important to me to raise awareness for IC so that patients can be diagnosed more quickly and receive necessary treatment. The ICA is important to me as a trusted resource, and I am proud to be a board member helping the ICA raise money and awareness. This year, I will run a half marathon over the course of the second half of September to show support for those with IC who are unable to be as physically active as they used to be and to raise funds for the ICA to help educate and support more patients like me. I hope that completing a half marathon mileage over the course of two weeks will represent that we don't have to climb the mountain all at once, and if we take a few meaningful steps each day, we can reach our goals.
The ICA is a patient advocacy organization devoted to optimal care with support for people affected by interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). IC/BPS is a chronic pain disease that is not well known by the public or even healthcare practitioners, yet millions of Americans suffer from it. The primary symptom of IC/BPS is excruciating bladder pain, and secondary symptoms include urinary urgency and frequency. Many patients suffer for years without a diagnosis and miss the opportunity to make important lifestyle changes that provide relief.
I am asking you to consider supporting me and the ICA by donating to my fundraiser, starting your own fundraiser, and/or encouraging people in your lives to learn more about IC. My goal is to raise $2,000, and a generous donor will match your donation dollars TWICE...meaning every dollar really has TRIPLE impact!
I hope you'll join me in the fight against IC, either by joining my team and raising awareness...or by simply making a donation! Every dollar helps!
