In July of 2022, we lost my wonderful uncle and godfather Michael Pierson to ALS. For the four years prior to that, we had watched as he lived through every day with the disease without ever losing his faith or sense of humor. For those of you who don’t know, ALS is a progressive degenerative disease. When it affects one of your loved ones, they slowly and painfully lose the abilities to walk, talk, or even move on their own. It is also 100% fatal. From the moment he was diagnosed, my Uncle Michael knew what the end of the road would be. But he was brave and selfless. He participated in different research trials to try to find treatments for this horrible disease, so that those who come after him might have hope of turning ALS from terminal to chronic.
In my uncle’s memory, our family participated in the Hope Walks for ALS fundraiser every year. This year is the foundation’s 25th anniversary. Everyone who donates to this event contributes to research efforts and support for families living with ALS. In the past our team, Pierson Powerhouse, has been able to raise thousands of dollars in support of this goal.
I miss my Uncle Michael terribly. I miss his laugh at family parties. I missed him at my wedding this year, where I know he would have sat right up front ready to review every detail with us at the end of the night. And I know he is missed every minute of the day by his wife, four children, and adorable grandson.
Please consider joining our team or making a donation to support our efforts to combat ALS. We deeply appreciate your generosity in anything you can offer- joining us, donating, or even just offering a word of support. Together we keep Hope on the Horizon. 💙
