Last year, I introduced you to Hudson, my 7-year-old hero who has battled brain cancer since he was 2. Things were going well for Hudson and then this past Spring, aggressive brain tumors reappeared. Surgery was not an option this time, so Hudson spent his summer taking oral chemo, trying to prevent tumor growth. “Huddy” felt a little tired but still played soccer and enjoyed a family vacation to Mexico where floating in the lazy river of a fun water park was his favorite activity. Upon return to St. Louis, Hudson’s family faced the stress of a brain scan, and miraculously, Hudson’s tumors had reduced in size and the critical cancer research happening at Siteman Kids at STL Children’s Hospital, with the help of Pedal the Cause. Three weeks ago, Hudson started 1st grade and got to be “on-field” at a St. Louis City Soccer game! 😊 !
This year marks Pedal’s 15th anniversary and the funding of 229 unique cancer research projects - 30% for Pediatric Cancers (which only receive 4% of national cancer research funds) and 70% for Adult Cancers. To date, Pedal has raised an extraordinary $45 Million which has leveraged over $600 Million from national cancer funders to advance the projects that Pedal “seed money” launched. All run by an 8 person staff.
Pedal’s annual cycling challenge takes place next weekend on Sat-Sun, Sept. 21-22 and our goal is to beat last years’ record by raising $5.5 Million!

Stock donations and Donor-Advised Fund - When processing a DAF grant through a charitable giving account, search for the Pedal the Cause by tax ID (27-2233336). In the “notes” section, indicate the Pedal the Cause fundraiser you want to support.
