My Why
My name is Tim Wood & who I am is a different story. It has taken 22 years to write my own narrative where I didn’t feel broken/useless, changed my mindset from victim to warrior made peace with myself & the status quo. My name is Tim Wood & I am a survivor. Of the passing of my children, 4 auto accidents that should have been “it”, years of trauma that led to a functioning dependance to alcohol; All the while at 34, getting ready for my second Colon Cancer surgery (I was first diagnosed at 27). In 2020, my life changed in ways I could not imagine. Thinking I may have covid, the doctors at U.W. hospital found a swollen spleen, beginning stage Cirrhosis & enough returning colon cancer pollops to warrant a full removal.
My name is Tim Wood & living with Cancer has changed my life. I have always wondered the “how & why” of the past would prepare me for the positive ripple in the future. In my body is Lynch syndrome (a mimic or carrier of cancer cells) & it’s not going away. Coping with all of this has left a mental “superhero” complex when things get too rough. It also helps that am a Marvel fan! Through these last 4 years, I have been free of colon cancer & only some minor skin cancer outbreaks. I am obsessed with disc golf, art, music, nature…a path of bushido all along. I decided to fight cancer with cancer. I ride for my neighbor, my cousin Ben and countless others who lost their fight, my aunt who BEAT cancer, to the child that didn’t ask for this like us all. This is why I’m riding & hope you join us.

The Badger Challenge's mission is to give 100% of all participant-raised dollars (yes, every penny!) to the most promising UW cancer initiatives both in the laboratory and clinic setting. Since 2016, Badger Challenge has raised over $3.6 million and what’s best of all is our ability to see where the money goes as Badger Challenge presents their Scholars each year!
Badger Challenge takes place in September and 100% of all dollars-raised are presented to the newly announced Scholar Class by January of the next year. This is done quickly so the funds can make an impact in the labs and hospital helping patients and families immediately.
