I grew up in an immigrant home with my Granny and she had a very different outlook on life. She taught me our language, exposed me to music from all over Europe and North America, told me stories of beautiful places and creatures, taught me compassion, and most importantly, taught me that the world was bigger than my house, my small town, and even my country. She taught me that we all share this huge world and limiting ourselves to borders, just limits us as people. I am who I am even proudly bearing her name because of who she was! Immigrants and refugees make this country better and make us better as people. We should fight every day to make sure everyone is respected, loved, safe, and their needs are provided for no matter the place where they were born. Our compassion and our unconditional love for one another shouldn't stop at a border and the thought that our resources are finite so we should fight over them like lions only sets up this country for hate and violence. Immigrants and Refugees should be given the same hand that I know 90% of those reading this', forefathers were given. So I ask you to please take your hand out and give it to Iris by donating and helping to make sure everyone has a chance of a good life with love and dignity no matter their background!
