Pedal the Cause

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's largest cancer fundraiser. It's a way of life, a celebration, a family and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.

My ride is personal.  This year marks 8 years since I was first diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, an aggressive type of cancer. I am grateful to say that I have “lived a lot of life” since then.  I’ve also learned a LOT—I mean, A LOT—about cancer in the past 8 years, and I understand even more richly now how the innovative research that is funded by Pedal the Cause directly advances our understanding of cancer.

I have a unique perspective on Pedal the Cause because I’m not only a Siteman Cancer Center cancer patient, but I also just marked 15 years as Research Coordinator at Wash U School of Medicine, working in cancer prevention and control research projects with the same group for these years.  In that role, I’ve been honored to work alongside researchers who are doing the work that is directly benefitting from PTC. The range of projects that gets funded seems important to share here. From equity in genetic testing and cancer prevention, to health disparities in MY KIND OF CANCER, to how guided physical activity can lessen the burden of chemotherapy, to the folks across campus who are doing the basic science and treatment trials, and so much more, the OUTSTANDING work being done is directly tied to the fundraising by donors to Pedal the Cause.
