Pedal the Cause

My name is Anthony Vatterott and I have been riding in Pedal the Cause since it was started 15 years ago.  What drives me to fundraise for this organization is that the return on the money raised is able to do so much good in conducting research and developing cures and therapies for the treatment of aggressive cancers.  Washington University's Siteman Cancer Center has not only treated and cured those most dear to me, it has provided a pathway to develop the most innovative way to treat the whole being, from novel targeted therapies based on genetics, but also by improving the quality of life of those going through cancer treatment.  

I ride for many people.  My grandfather was a lymphoma survivor and a multi-time cancer survivor.  He rode this race with me every year well into his 80's, becoming the oldest rider at Pedal The Cause.  When I ride, I think of my mom, my grandmother, my uncles, my aunt, my siblings and friends who have endured cancer.  I also remember how difficult it has been to see those I love--and even complete strangers--suffer when we can cure this disease if we commit to curing it.  I have been fortunate to work the past few years with a colleague who is currently undergoing treatment and it is the positive energy, motivation and desire to "keep going" of those who endure their fight against cancer that keeps me going and riding this bike to raise money every year.  

Siteman Cancer Center at Washington University is the most advanced Cancer Center in the region and its work is relentless in finding ways to eliminate this disease completely once and for all.  I hope you join me in the cause, to see cancer eradicated in our lifetime.  

And just know that your donation is magnified by the impact it has, because for each dollar earned, nearly 12 dollars of follow on research funding is acquired and generated to cure cancer.  And 100%--all of the administrative costs--are covered so everything you donate, goes to the cure and the end result:  to completely cure cancer, so that nobody must suffer from such an unnecessary thing.
