Deuce was the most loved dog to ever walk and then roll this earth. A surprise gift from my husband when we were newly married, babies in our early 20s living on an Army base hundreds of miles from home. His tenacity and independent nature were apparent even at 8 weeks old. Deuce was naturally extremely athletic, walking up to 5 miles a day for the first 8 years of his life. He was my partner in everything.
The diagnosis came as a complete surprise too. Deuce started to drag his back toes on a walk and the disease progressed from there, stealing his mobility over the next 2 and a half years. Deuce fought DM courageously, transitioning to wheels and refusing to give up his daily walks. Witnessing his fight and supporting him in every way possible was the hardest journey I've ever taken and the most rewarding work I've ever done. I learned what it means to go through caregiving, and I'll never approach life the same way.
Embraced by unconditional love, Deuce left his earthly body on March 23, 2022. Released from DM, Deuce zoomied across the rainbow bridge and now runs free forever in our hearts and memories.
