The United States is a country of indiginous peoples and immigrants. In the best of times, the US has embraced those fleeing oppression and trauma -- who have made a better life here and contributed to our economy, culture, and knowledge. At this time, when immigrant families are threatened with deportation, separation of children and their families, and a return to the dangers of the countries from which they fled, we need to remember and support our shared humanity.
