Six Feet Over (SFO) is a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial and emotional support for survivors of suicide loss and individuals with lived experience of suicide. Founded in 2012 by Kate Hardy—herself a survivor who lost her mother and eight friends to suicide—SFO was created to address critical gaps in conventional mental health and suicide prevention services. The organization focuses on nontraditional outreach and loss support, particularly in areas where financial assistance is often lacking.
SFO’s mission is carried out through two primary programs: Suck It! Suicide (SIS) and Lemon Aid. SIS brings mental health outreach and suicide prevention resources to unconventional spaces—such as bars, concerts, and festivals—meeting people where they are emotionally and physically. The Lemon Aid program supports loss survivors in the immediate aftermath of suicide, offering care and resources when they are needed most. Through collaboration with professionals, community partners, and grassroots advocates, Six Feet Over promotes mental health education, advocacy, and prevention, all in service of building healthier futures.
