This year marks 5 years since my cancer diagnosis and initial treatment. I’ll always remember the date I was discharged from the hospital following my mastectomy and reconstruction because it was my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. This year, I got the all clear on my imaging and check up on their 55th anniversary.
I am grateful for excellent health insurance and for the precision medicine it covers. Having access to all of the diagnostic tests, consults, surgery, medicine, and ongoing monitoring without having to make a decision about going into debt or staying alive. The Badger Challenge helps advance precision medicine, which is a buzz word today but is how cancer has been treated for decades. One small example is the genomic tests that produced my oncotype and helped my doctors determine chemotherapy didn’t add benefit for my long-term wellbeing. Even 10 years prior, without the most current research, chemo would have been an automatic course of treatment.
I support the badger challenge to fund ongoing research and updates to patient treatment initiatives that are possible through your generous donations which fund some of the brightest minds in cancer research. The Badger Challenge's mission is to give 100% of all participant-raised dollars to the most promising UW cancer initiatives both in the laboratory and clinic setting.
I appreciate donations and am equally thankful for motivating words and support. If you are unable to make a monetary donation at this point, please help the Badger Challenge reach their goal by sharing this page with others on social media or send an email to friends you think might be interested in contributing or joining Badger Challenge at BadgerChallenge.org.
