Fundraising Page for Michael Robert Knigge!
Dear Friends and Family:
This will be the fourth year I've participated in the BADGER CHALLENGE to raise money in Mike's name for cancer research. The BADGER CHALLENGE is a major fundraising event sponsored by the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. This NCI (National Cancer Institute) designated comprehensive cancer center is the facility where Mike received his treatment. I will forever be grateful for the compassionate care and excellent treatment he received during his illness. So, when I learned the Carbone Cancer Center held an annual walk, run, and bike event every September - near Mike's birthday - to support cancer research, I said, "I'm In." The first year following Mike's death, the BADGER CHALLENGE was held on his birthday, September 26th. I borrowed a bike and crossed the finish line after riding 25 kilometers. That first year, over $1000 was donated in Mike's name towards cancer research. In the years since then, I have honored Mike's memory by continuing to be involved in this fundraising event. So, you guessed it! I'm back this year to ride a bike in the 25 kilometer event.
The Badger Challenge's mission is to give 100% of all participant-raised dollars (yes, every penny!) to the most promising UW cancer initiatives both in the laboratory and clinic setting. This year the Badger Challenge will take place on Sunday, September 22, 2024. 100% of all dollars-raised are presented to the newly announced Scholar Class by January of the next year. This is done quickly so the funds can make an impact in the labs and hospital helping patients and families immediately. To learn more about Badger Challenge, please go to BadgerChallenge.org.
