Why I Ride For Cancer

I am proud to AGAIN join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's largest cancer fundraiser. It's a way of life, a celebration, a family, and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.

Please support my efforts by donating to my fundraiser and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will fund lifesaving cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital.  I am riding the RIVER BLUFF CENTURY (100 miles / 2600 ft+ elevation) to help raise needed funds to fight this dreadful disease.  PLEASE DONATE what you can.

THE REASON I DO THIS IS LAST YEAR I LOST A BELOVED FRIEND ANDY JUBY TO CANCER. He was incredible and had a rare spirit for life that I will forever miss.  We shared a passion for ADVENTURE and traveled the world for 30+ years pursuing that next big challenge together!  HE WAS FUN, FULL OF LIFE and all about GOING FOR IT!!  His amazing story is below.

Additionally, this year has been no better because another longtime friend’s DAUGHTER LOST HER 6 YEAR BATTLE WITH CANCER; she was only 38 years old.  And hell, I even lost my dog to cancer at 7 years old.  You all have likely experienced cancer either directly or within your family or friends.  The only way we are going to beat this is to hit it head on and provide the money/resources needed to fund research to find a solution!!  Imagine a world without cancer!

ANDREW JUBY, a beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2023, in Clearwater, FL, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born on October 25, 1970, in Plumstead, UK, Andrew was known for his adventurous spirit, passion for life, and intelligence.

Andrew is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Andrea Wheeler Juby; daughter, Grace Juby (Fiance, Paul Johnson); son, Elliott Juby; brother, Michael Juby; sister-in-law, Sarah Juby; nephew, Marcus Juby; and niece, Harriett Juby. Andrew's family will remember him for his unwavering love and support, as well as his infectious enthusiasm for the many activities they shared.

Andrew completed his Bachelor's in Finance at Memphis State University, where he also excelled as a cross-country runner. He held numerous records and awards in England, including the 4th fastest mile for the 'under 15' age group, English school champion for the 'under 15' 1500m run (1985), English school cross country champion (1986), and Kent Cross Country champion. His athletic accomplishments continued throughout his life, as he participated in 26 Peachtree Road Races and completed the 2010 Roth Iron Man in Germany.

An avid hiker and backpacker, Andrew explored trails across the world, from the Appalachian Trail to the UK Coast to Coast and the heights of Mt. Rainier, Pikes Peak, Machu Picchu, and Chachani. Andrew's love for adventure extended to two wheels, as he embarked on cycling journeys along the Kokopelli Trail (148 miles), Blue Ridge Parkway (469 miles), and sections of the Tour de France. He also enjoyed motorcycling on his Triumphs and KTM, tackling the Pacific 1 Highway , the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route, and the Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway.

Andrew's passion for automobiles led him to collect, modify, and race cars throughout his life. He completed the DirtFish Rally School training course in Washington, reached nearly 200 miles per hour at the Ocala quarter-mile drag strip in his Nissan GTR, and traversed the Rubicon Trail. A lifelong Formula 1 fan, Andrew supported Lewis Hamilton and attended multiple USA and Canadian Grand Prix events.

Fishing was another of Andrew's favorite pastimes. He logged countless hours in North Carolina, fly fishing for trout on the Nantahala River. He also loved deep sea and bay fishing, with notable catches including a 274-pound Black Marlin in Cabo San Lucas, a 62-pound Tarpon near Clearwater, and a number of trophy Halibut in Alaska. He also enjoyed exploring waterways by trolling or paddling, with memorable trips to Alaskan fjords, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, the Everglades, and the Florida Keys.

Andrew's love for sports began with football and rugby in his youth, and he remained a lifelong supporter of Arsenal FC and the English National Teams. His athletic prowess carried him to the United States on a cross-country running scholarship at Memphis State University, where he represented the institution from 1989-1992. Andrew continued racing after graduation, participating in numerous charity races and triathlons.

Andrew Juby may have been taken from this Earth, but his indomitable spirit remains forever entrenched in the hearts of those who loved him. His life casts a brilliant beacon of inspiration, urging us to embrace adventure, cultivate passion, and savor every moment with boundless enthusiasm.

Even in the face of the deepest sorrow, we remember that Andrew lived a life defined by unflinching courage, boundless love, and limitless possibility. In every step we take, we honor his memory, knowing that his example will continue to guide and inspire us in every mile we travel, every peak we conquer, and every path we choose.
