I'm excited to share that I'm participating in a meaningful initiative with an organization close to my heart. At Elevate+, we are breaking down systemic barriers and offering underserved students life-changing internship opportunities in non profit organizations. While the goal is to provide students with career based experience and mentorship, the Elevate+ program also benefits entire communities by providing local non profits with talented college students excited to begin their careers.
People who know me understand that this cause is especially close to my heart. As many of you know, I started my professional career through an unpaid internship at the American Red Cross in Montclair. This internship eventually led to an offer of a paid position in the East Orange office upon graduation, which was the catalyst to my career in Social Work. I am forever grateful for the experience, mentorship and relationships I developed that summer and in my subsequent years at the American Red Cross (shout out to the best mentor of all time Harold Brooks!). I fully support the mission of Elevate+ to help other students have the same opportunity in this competitive job market. In the last few years, Elevate+ has already assisted many students in obtaining and navigating their internships and several have found opportunities in their chosen fields and already working to become mentors themselves!
