Run for Malawi 2025

I am raising money for Malawi Children's Initiative which is working to improve the lives of children in one of the poorest countries in the world. The recent devaluation of the Malawian currency by 44% in November led to a marked increase in poverty and childhood hunger. The World Food Program estimates 22% of Malawi's population will suffer hunger during the lean season when the supply of maize from the last season runs out before the new harvest in March and April. This can be seen most keenly at the Nutritional Rehab Unit of Kamuzu Central Hospital, which is overfilled with children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition. 10% of these children will die.

Malawi Children's Initiative pays the salaries of the nutritionists, nurses and clinical officers in the NRU and is working to save these children. MCI's pediatric lab is a key tool in this effort as well due to the severe electrolyte imbalances children experience during starvation and refeeding.
