Dear Friends and Family,
We're writing to you today as the San Antonio Station Alliance (SASA) Team – Joe Lawlor and Ben Matlaw – united by our commitment to supporting public education right here in Oakland and Alameda. As members of SASA, we believe in strengthening community connections, and strong public schools are vital to that mission.
That's why we've teamed up for Ride 4A Reason, an annual bike ride to Sacramento dedicated to raising funds for Oakland and Alameda public schools. This marks the ride's 18th year, a testament to its lasting impact. Cumulatively, Ride 4A Reason has raised nearly $1.8 million, providing direct support where it's needed most. While we ride, we're also excited to raise awareness for the work of the San Antonio Station Alliance (you can learn more at https://www.sanantoniostation.net/).
However, our primary goal for this ride is fundraising for local students. The difference Ride 4A Reason makes is tangible. Last year alone, the funds raised benefited over 6,000 students across eleven local schools. Donations enabled opportunities like field trips, enhanced library access, memorable outdoor education (like river rafting!), and even sports team uniforms – critical elements for a well-rounded education that often fall outside standard budgets.
While government funding provides the basics, it doesn't always cover the programs that truly ignite learning and engagement. Public schools, particularly in underserved communities and following the end of COVID relief funds, face ongoing funding challenges. Ride 4A Reason helps bridge this gap.
Our SASA Team goal is to raise $1000 by the ride on April 26th, 2025. 100% of the funds we raise through this page go directly to supporting these vital programs in Oakland and Alameda schools.
