Bearhead honors a mythological figure believed to lift up downtrodden spirits through interpretative and transcendental artistic performances. The band learned from the music of the Allman Brothers Band, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, John Prine, Widespread Panic, Wilco, Rolling Stones, Hank Williams, Phish, J. J. Cale, The Meters, and many others, including regional and local Gulf Coast musicians. The band’s experience runs from boogie chillin’ with Hank Becker to live and late venues, opening for Jerry Lee Lewis and the Derek Trucks Band, studio work in the Southeast and Rocky Mountains, and many festivals along the way.
University Hospital’s Medical Director for Anesthesia, Dr. Kai Rodning (USAMC ‘05), likes organs so much he plays one for Bearhead. Taylor Weldon (USA grateful patient) amuses electric Fender and Gibson Guitars. Michael Berson percusses a wide smile and never fusses. Jason Dabbs punches clockwork time on the drums. Caine O’Rear plays rhythm guitar and sings storified lyrics. Dr. Gene Longenecker (USA ‘04) keeps it low and lively on the bass.
Bearhead is raising money for the University Hospital Anesthesiology Department.
