In additional Memory of Bambi Fields:
In July 2017, my dear friend moved all of her belongings into storage, she and her daughter moved in with her parents. It didn't take long to figure out that she wasn't her charismatic, witty, outgoing self and we knew that something didn't add up. On August 2, 2017 she and her mother went to the ER; she had a large skin lesion of the chest wall. Her hemoglobin was 3.5!!! They would not even consider surgery before giving her 4 units of blood which took all night. The doctor took her into surgery to clean the wound and take a biopsy to determine what kind of cancer that she had. During the surgery, SOMETHING caused a severe anaphylaxis reaction and her airway closed off. An emergency tracheostomy was performed to save her life. The doctor said that he could not let her go home until she had an airway and a way to get nutrition, so a P.E.G. tube was placed into her stomach for feeding. After staying in the hospital from August 2nd to August 21st, she came home a tracheostomy and the stage 4 breast cancer that had metastatic to the brain, liver and lungs. On February 6th 2018 Bambi Fields passed away at her home surrounded by her family and friends. One thing she asked before passing was for her family and friends to keep her fight alive for the women with breast cancer. I found this wonderful organization Remember Betty who help minimize the financial burden associated with breast cancer for patients & survivors so that they can focus on recovery & quality of life. Let’s work together and make Bambi’s dream a reality and donate to Remember Betty's, TeamBettyNOLA!!
